A division of progressive iron works

For as long as he could remember Sal’s childhood and teen years were spent working in the family lumber yard. Around 1947, 18 year old Sal Dash’s interest in ornamental iron work began to come alive while he studied the plans he and his family had drawn for the houses they would be building. Sal longed to remove the wooden post and replace them with original handmade ornamental designs. With his father’s blessing and a small amount of money Progressive Iron Works opened its doors May 10th 1948.

For the past 60 years Progressive Iron Works has become one of the oldest and largest ornamental iron shops in the metropolitan New Orleans area. We are proud to manufacture and design top quality iron railings and stairways and have more original designs than any other iron company. Our tradition is steeped in old time black smith work and our artisans are able to build most anything out of iron. In fact, our motto is...If you can draw it, we can build it. Our designs have graced many magazines and our work can be seen on many streets in New Orleans, many cities in the United States and even in Europe.

Sal’s craftsmanship is being passed down to a new generation of artisans with his son Steven. Sal’s young 13 year old grandson Steven is showing an interest and has been known to dabble and design toys out of iron.
